Of the 11,010 students admitted to colleges in the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2011 till the fifth day of counselling, 5,844 were boys and 5,166 girls. In ECE, 1,707 were girls and 995 were boys out of the 2,702 students choosing the stream in the first five days. The number of girls opting for Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Computer Science Engineering (CSE) and Information Technology (IT) is almost double that of boys selecting these three streams. Girls, as usual, have preferred not joining engineering courses such as mechanical and automobiles, which are physical in nature.
