Difference between Conservative force and Non Conservative force

The basic difference between conservative force and non conservative force is that

  • The work done in a closed loop is zero for conservative forces. That is, the work done is independent of path. Gravitational force and electrostatic force are examples. In the case of a non conservative force, the work done in a closed loop is not zero. In other words, for a non conservative force, the work done depends on path followed. Frictional force is an example for non conservative force.
